Missionary Update Newsletter Insert Posted on Thursday, December 31st, 2009
Your Missionaries at Mormon Missions Midwest Outreach, Rocky and Helen’s Update September 2009 Lots and lots of questions have been coming our way because of the
recent events in our life (Helen’s sister passing and our recent move
to Austin, Texas). Helen’s sister, Mary, went to be with the Lord on
June 22nd, ending a six month ordeal since she was first diagnosed with
lung cancer in January, which eventually migrated to her brain. Mary’s
health was one of the factors that weighted our decision to tenure our
resignation at The Nauvoo Christian Visitors Center in June of 2008, so
we could be in a position to help family members who needed our help.
Right at the time of Mary’s greatest health needs, we relocated to
Austin, Texas, and Helen went and spent the last month of her life by
her side giving what comfort she could. Mary passed away in Helen’s
arms on that Monday morning in June with Helen telling her it was O.K.
to go; Mary had accepted the Lord just a few weeks before and Helen was
telling Mary, to let herself go and be with her Savior – she did, and
is now resting peacefully in Him. In January of 2002 the Lord led us to begin Mormon Missions Midwest
Outreach. MMMO grew like wildfire as the Lord opened doors faster than
we could open them; especially providing the opportunity to begin our
TV show, “Truth Outreach.” When Helen and I were asked to become the
Directors of The Nauvoo Christian Visitors Center in October 2005, we
had no idea we would leaving in June 2008. Our time in Nauvoo was
exceptionally rewarding. We were privileged to see the ministry there
grow beyond our wildest expectations; perhaps that is because as mere
man, we see with restricted sight, and we often limit what God can do. We were blessed beyond measure by the support from the local churches
and individual Christians as well who met the needs over and over again
as they surfaced. From the renovation of the old building just ½ block
from the newly rebuilt Nauvoo Temple, to the monies needed to expand
the TV broadcast of our television show “Truth Outreach,” we saw God
move through the hard work, sweat, tears, prayers, and unselfish giving
to make these things happen. The work on the building not only made our
living quarters upstairs so much more appealing, but also the
downstairs was updated to be very warm and hospitable. The work of
renovating the Center was hard; harder still, was leaving behind the
many friendships made, and the hours of wonderful fellowship enjoyed
with the many, many unselfish Christians that donated so much of their
time and talents to the project. I won’t attempt to name all of these
wonderful folks, fearing that I might inadvertently leave someone out;
suffice it to say, that those were hours spent enjoying the fruit of
hard work and awesome Christian fellowship – at its best!! Both before and after the renovation of the Center, we enjoyed many
opportunities to share the Lord with the Lost People Group known as
Mormons. Some of those conversations were pure joy; some were biting
and difficult. Easy or hard, only the Lord knows the seeds that were
planted. Only the Lord could open so many doors at churches throughout several
states allowing us to provide seminars educating the Body of Christ
concerning this false religion of Mormonism. The blessings continued
with great exposure to our ministry through the media of radio, TV and
numerous newspaper articles in major newspapers (The Wall Street
Journal, Chicago Tribune, New York Post and local papers as well, The
Nauvoo New Independent, The Hawk Eye, Ft Madison Daily Democrat, and
The Quincy Whig). We were also privileged to lead the Center through a period of growth
in the size of the newsletter mailings. That blessing also came with an
added workload. With the added workload came the blessing of the
“newsletter folding parties.” Two wonderful churches, Harvest Bible
Fellowship, Ft Madison, and West Avenue Baptist, Burlington, stepped
forward and volunteered to help us fold all those newsletters and
prepare them for mailing. Some donuts, orange juice, coffee, and tons
of good fellowship made all that work an event that I looked forward to
each month. A Hollywood party for an Oscar can’t hold a candle to those
“newsletter folding parties!!” We have been asked several times if we would consider coming back to
the Center now that Mary has passed and some of those family
circumstances that drove our decision to leave are no longer a factor.
When we learned that Mary had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and
given just months to live, Helen and I took a hard look at the
situation we then found ourselves in. As a school teacher, I am
contracted year to year. I was at a point where I could choose not to
commit to another year long contract and we had a window of opportunity
to return to Nauvoo. We contacted the Board of Directors and told them
that we were in a position to come back to Nauvoo if they desired, but
the decision had to be made within a month, or I would have to commit
to another year long contract. We were stuck with our home in Houston
that had all the liens placed on it by contractors that the builder
hadn’t paid off, but nonetheless, we were willing to take the financial
loss and head north to Nauvoo. The Board of Directors decided not to
accept our offer. We respect that decision and pray for the Center to
continue as God leads. When the Board of Directors of the Nauvoo Christian Visitors Center
decided not to have us come back and serve, I secured another year long
teaching contract at a high school in the Austin, Texas area. We are
now starting to settle in, since Helen has come home from California.
We are getting our library set back up and the ministry of Mormon
Missions Midwest Outreach back up and running. We’ve already had
numerous opportunities to educate the Body of Christ about the false
teachings of Mormonism. Jesus truly wants us to bloom where we are planted. In the new job in
Austin, I am sharing a classroom with another teacher. The last name of
this teacher is “Fancher.” That is the same last name of the
“Fancher-Baker” wagon train that was slaughtered by the Mormons at the
Mountain Meadows Massacre. So, I said to him “You wouldn’t happen to
know anything about Mountain Meadows Massacre would you?” His reply was
stunning: “Alexander Fancher, the leader of the wagon train, and I
share a common grandfather. My G-G-G-G-Grandfather was Alexander’s
Grandfather.” This man hasn’t read a book in 30 years. He read my book
“When Salt Lake City Calls,” in three days. He is planning on attending
the 150th Remembrance of the Return of the Children of the Mountain
Meadows Massacre in Carrollton, Arkansas, September 18th and 19th along
with us on our first Missions trip since July 08. Our vision is so
small; God’s perspective is so BIG!! We thank each of you for your prayers and support of the work God has
called us to do. We covet your continued prayers as we move forward in
this work. May our gracious Lord richly bless each and every one of
you!!!
In His Service,
Rocky and Helen Hulse

In Loving Memory of my sister Mary Lea Lynch - June 22, 2009 Posted on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009
Many of you have been praying for my sister Mary since we learned she had lung cancer on January 19, 2009. I travelled to California on the 25th of May to be with my sister and on the 27th, she was admitted to the hospital until transfer on June 2nd to a convalecent home. I promised her, I would not leave her side, I did not.
On June 22nd I was finally able to take her in my arms and say the words "It's okay sweetie, go home to our loved ones, with those words she left this world".
For My Sister Mary
When We Remember
You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back Or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she’s gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
Praise Report and Prayer Request Posted on Tuesday, May 5th, 2009
Big praise report - Helen's sister, Mary, though still suffering in the last stages of cancer, prayed with Helen a couple of weeks ago for her salvation. We rejoice that her name is now written in the Lambs Book of Life. Please remember Mary in your prayers, as her life is slowing, painfully, slipping away as the cancer wears her down. She is getting closer and closer to the hospice phase of this illness, our hearts are light and rejoicing that Mary finally accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. One last word to all, never give up, never stop praying. Helen has been praying for her sister Mary, since she was saved in 1982. Always remember to say what you need to say and say it in love.

Former Mormon Rocky Hulse and wife harassed for Nauvoo witness Posted on Monday, March 3rd, 2008
Baptist Press Feburary 28, 2008 Ex-Mormon harassed for Nauvoo witness
By: Jerry Higgins
NAUVOO, Ill. (BP)--Nestled along the banks of the Mississippi River about 270 miles southwest of Chicago, the Illinois town of Nauvoo is just a dot on the map for most people. Nauvoo had seen better days as a thriving producer of cheese and wine until the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints built a $30 million temple in the community... Now an estimated 300,000 to 400,000 visitors come to Nauvoo each year. Many of them pass the stucco storefront of the Christian Visitors Center, where Rocky Hulse and his wife Helen stand ready to tell anyone who will listen the differences between Mormonism and authentic Christian faith... Hulse has a weekly television show...and is the author of a new book, "When Salt Lake City Calls: Is There a Conflict Between Mormonism and the Public Trust?" dealing largely with Mormon doctrines. He says all he is doing is comparing Mormon teachings to the Bible and exposing the true history of Mormonism. Not everyone welcomes his message. Bishop David Wright, a Mormon leader in Nauvoo, described Hulse's ministry to The Chicago Tribune as "a non-Christian center or anti-Mormon center," saying, "I don't see anything Christian about it."... Hulse said his home office above the visitors center has been trashed and he has received several threatening e-mails. One e-mail, received a couple of days before Christmas 2006, read: "id love to watch you all die, then witness the looks on your faces when you realize how stupid and counterproductive your fight really was."... Nauvoo Chief of Police Don Faulkner said Utah authorities refused to prosecute because they didn't have enough evidence. Faulkner, who is not a Mormon, said, "It's up to the state, the county and the attorney in the jurisdiction. It's up to the attorney whether he thinks the case is winnable. Opinions bear no weight. He won't take a case to court if he doesn't have enough evidence regardless of what anyone thinks."...Faulkner said he believes they have nothing to worry about from the locals. Police investigations have not come up with any suspects in the ransacking of his office. "He [Hulse] spent time in the Navy protecting everyone's rights," Faulkner said. "He protected Mormons' religious beliefs, whether he agrees or not, along with Islam, Catholic, Baptist, Jewish … whatever religious beliefs." But, Faulkner said, "When you have radio and TV programs and a storefront establishment preaching against a religion, people of that faith look at you and will make comments about you."... Hulse's straightforward evangelistic technique obviously rubs people the wrong way, said Jane Langford, editor of the local weekly newspaper, The Nauvoo New Independent. She said Hulse's expertise gives him credibility and rankles the Mormons. "Rocky has done his research," said Langford, a Catholic who has published several of Hulse's articles. "I've given him a platform and he took it. At times maybe he took it too far. I've had a backlash, but I've tried to keep the tradition of the newspaper. I'm sure if I folded up, the Mormon Church would finance and start a newspaper which would have their slant to it." The Nauvoo Christian Visitors Center is one of three visitors centers in the community. One is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the other by the reorganized Community of Christ, an offshoot of the main Mormon body. The other visitors centers, Hulse said, claim the only true church is the one started by Joseph Smith. The visitors center the Hulses operate existed before they arrived in Nauvoo in 2005. "No one ever challenges the Mormon Church at the level we do it," Hulse said. "Our TV show has us in many markets. They [Mormon leaders] have rewritten doctrines that they don't tell anyone. "If we are being untruthful, they have every right to expose us. No one has come forth because there is nothing to expose."

Mormon Church refuses TV show participation! Posted on Friday, February 22nd, 2008
MORMON CHURCH REFUSES PARTICIPATION IN UPCOMING "TRUTH OUTREACH" PROGRAM!
We were accused on the front page of the Wall Street Journal article of February 8, 2008, in the last "Breaking News" post below, of being "wrong on the facts." As we have done previously, I sent a letter to the Mormon Church Public Relations Department in Salt Lake City inviting them to provide a spokesperson to present the Mormon Church doctrine of Jesus providing atonement in the Garden of Gethsemane, vice the Christian doctrine of atonement on the Cross of Calvary. I received a letter of "decline," dated February 20, 2008, from the Mormon Church, "Illinois Nauvoo Mission, Vern Whisenant, Historic Nauvoo Public Affairs." Mr. Whisenant is the Public Affairs representative in Nauvoo, Illinois. Since the Mormon Church refuses to provide their position when invited to do so, I will do it for them - documented from their own source material, as usual.
